160 Montague Street | Lunenburg | Nova Scotia

Open daily from 11AM to 6PM

dis.cord gallery was started for the love of art, in all of its forms. Located in the heart of the waterfront district of the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, its distinctive all-black building with red doors was originally built in 1873 and has been an important fixture in the town for nearly 150 years.

Known for its world-class curation, dis.cord has one of Canada's most interesting edits, including paintings from historic Canadian artists (the largest private collection of famed Nova Scotia artist, William deGarthe), contemporary paintings from established and emerging local artists, pieces from award-winning Nova Scotia sculptors, antique blanket boxes from Lunenburg County and vintage objects from around the world.

The studio space around the back has a sweeping ceiling and plays host to live music throughout the summer. Pass by on a weekend and you’re likely to hear jazz, rock, bluegrass and folk floating out.

Lunenburg has the distinct honour of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This honour is reserved for locations of unique, cultural significance or natural beauty. Lunenburg is one of two, urban World Heritage Sites in continental North America (Old Quebec is the other).

The town achieved UNESCO distinction for its well-planned conception as a fishing village and the remarkable conservation of its original town-centre: a colonial harbour-settlement with impressive wooden architecture. In short Lunenburg is the world’s best-preserved, British-colonial fishing village.

Today, Lunenburg is a destination for great food, celebrated art and of course the waterfront. dis.cord gallery has the honour of being located on Montague Street in the heart of the Town’s waterfront district.
